To
ensure that Iowans with disabilities continue to
have trained and competent staff offering
quality employment services and supports, IVRS
has teamed with IA-APSE to provide training for
staff of CRPs holding current contracts with
IVRS.
This
special project involves four offerings of a
training series. The training series is made up
of three
components:

Foundations Self-Study Guide (required
prerequisite)
➜ Job
Development (for anyone performing Job
Development activities)
➜ Job
Coaching (for anyone performing Job Coaching
activities)
It is
possible for participants to enroll in both Job
Development and Job Coaching as determined by
their agency.
If you
are an IA-APSE member there is no fee!
If you
are a non-member, there will be a $60.00 fee to
cover a one-year membership to National/IA APSE
Content
Everyone
will enroll in the Foundations Self-Study
Component. This is a facilitated self-study that
guides the participant through an introduction
to employment services. Topics covered
include:

History of Vocational Rehabilitation

History of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act

It is
anticipated this will take approximately 15
hours of your time, done at your convenience,
but before you attend subsequent training(s).
Upon
completion of Foundations Self-Study,
participants may select either Job Development
or Job
Coaching. Individuals may elect to take both Job
Development and Job Coaching
depending of the types of services offered by
their agency.
Job Development topics

Business/sales
principles applied to job development
How to build
referral networks and access decision makers
How to approach
employers and what to say when you do
How to identify
employer needs and carve positions for clients
How to negotiate
a yes/no hiring decision in a professional way
How to handle
employer objections
Customer service
strategies for building employer partnerships
Job Coaching topics
include:

Supports
Each of these trainings is a
2-day face-to-face held at various locations
across the state. When you enroll, you will be
assigned an IA-APSE Board member as a mentor.
This person will be available to you as you go
through the Self-Study Guide and is also
available during any face-to-face training. This
IA-APSE series is approved by IVRS. Plus
it is currently under review by ACRE,
the nationally certifying body for Employment
Specialists. IVRS Certification: Complete
Foundations Self-Study Guide Attend
either Job Coaching or Job
Development and complete required field
assignments ACRE Certification: Complete
Foundations Self-Study Guide Attend
BOTH Job Coaching and Job
Development and complete required field
assignments.
